Careers 0> 12 Ways to be a Confident Public Speaker

by Sandra Schrift

Speak from your heart. If you believe in what you say, than others need to hear it. All confident speakers fall in the P2 (passion plus persistence). Be sure your speech contains your most fundamental beliefs and comes from authenticity.

1. Prepare, prepare, prepare!

2. Practice in front of a full-length mirror, for small groups. Join Toastmasters. www.toastmasters.org

3. Be positive. “I am a good speaker/trainer.”

4. Expect to be nervous. [deep breathe, exercise by walking, stretch, visualize your success, meditate] Make anxiety your ally. Increase your energy; heighten your awareness.

5. Focus on your audience. [It is NOT about you. You are there to help your audience]

6. Simplify. Use your time wisely and keep your presentation clear and simple so that your audience can understand what you are saying.

7. Connect with your audience. Look people in the eye, one at a time, as you speak to them. The audience wants you to succeed.

8. Act confident. Smile. Hold your chin up. Stick your chest out. When you do this, you will feel confident. Remember, YOU are the authority on the subject and they want to hear what you have to say.

9. Use humor wherever possible.

10. Offer the right message mix (inform, persuade, entertain, interact)

11. Establish credibility by the use of facts, statistics, and stories.

12. Learn from your mistakes. Making mistakes is part of your learning process. Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, said, “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”

Careers : Top Ten Ways to Improve Your Communication Skills

by Dorene Lehavi

1) Listen without judgment. The key to good communication is listening well. Save your judging for later after you have heard and understood what was said.

2) Listen with the willingness to be swayed to the other person's opinion. No obligation to actually being swayed, but stay open to the option.

3) Listen without thinking about what you will say next. Take time before you respond.

4) Do not be invested in being right. Being right is not the point. If you must be right, you are not able to listen nor communicate because you have set up a barrier already. If you are always right that means the other person is always wrong. That cannot be true.

5) If your mind wanders, ask for repetition. We all are subject to distraction. Try to stay focused.

6) In all cases repeat back what you heard and ask if it is correct.

7) Listen to yourself. Find quiet moments and pay attention to what you are hearing from yourself. Does your body tighten up about certain issues. Body language is not something to read only in other people.

8) Say it honestly, but with consideration for the listener's feelings. Be polite, respectful and sincere.

9) Understand and acknowledge that most things are not black or white, but somewhere in a gray area. Get comfortable with gray.

10) Have integrity and build trust. Don't say what you don't mean. Don't promise what you won't or can't fulfill. Follow through with any committments you make.

Good listening skills take practice. Specific coaching may be necessary if you find you have communication issues with your boss, colleagues, subordinates, partners or personal relationships.

Indonesia Vacancy : 5 Interviewing Tips To Get That Job

By Marie Roker

Anyone who is a jobseeker knows that looking for a new job or careers is a job in itself. Once you have completed the laborious task of writing your resume and submitting it to various companies, you now have to pass the screen test to get the job. Interviews are the gateway to landing your ideal job. These five tips will help you get own your way to making that job yours.

1. Be Confident

Your first impression is your only impression.
Nothing is worse than a limp handshake, slumped shoulders, poor eye contact or poor communication skills. A potential employer can tell immediately if you are the man or woman for this job by your body language. Although aggressiveness is a turn-off, being passive gives the indication that you are not sure of yourself or your qualifications. Keep eye contact when answering questions or when the interviewer is speaking directly to you. Smile occasionally to show your interest and enthusiasm. Keeping a steady gaze on the interviewer can be disturbing to an interviewer. Look away occasionally. Lean forward to show that you are interested in what the interviewer is saying. Speak in a concise and clear voice. If you have problems annunciating certain words, don’t try to use them on an interview. If this is difficult for you, practice with a mirror and pay attention to your facial expressions. Other interview killers: Slouching in a chair, Crossing your arms, Playing with your hair or jewelry, Leaning back in chair

2. Act As If

You are what you believe.
Act as if you had the job. What would you do if you had this position? How would you act? How would a person in this position act and speak? What are your responsibilities in this position? What is a typical day like for you in this job? Change your attitude towards yourself and your strengths. If you start thinking that you won’t get the job, you will do small unnoticeable things to sabotage your chances. Great free resource: www.confidenceworld.com.

3. Know The Company

Know the business.
I once sat on a couple of interviews where the interviewees did not do any research on the company. This sends a message that you are looking for any job, not this specific job. Once you’re interview is scheduled, get on the net and start finding out everything you can about the company. A good place to start is www.hoovers.com, which gives you industry information, top competitors, names of CEO, etc. If you’d like to know what current or former employees have to say about the company, try www.wetfeet.com. Beware of disgruntled postings. Call the company headquarters and ask for the marketing department to get specific information. Weave your research into the interview by stating. I read an article in the Wall Street Journal, which mentioned that your company is thinking about XYZ. This lets the interviewer know that you have taken the time to know more about the company. You can ask questions about something you read, but don’t challenge them or you’ll come across as a know-it-all.

4. Be Prepared

Know what to say.
Most interviewers ask the same standard questions about your strengths, weaknesses, former employers, work history. If you are being interviewed by several people, this might be a good cop, bad cop situation. Pay attention to who is playing bad cop, they are looking for signs of weakness and dishonesty. To be well prepared, before the interview, write out all your accomplishments, both personal and professional. List your strengths and weaknesses. Be honest, it’s easier to remember the truth than it is a lie. Extra Tip: Write out situations in which you have demonstrated: leadership skills, determination, stress management, creativity, and flexibility. Be prepared to answer the question: Why do you want this job? If you’re not sure, reevaluate your decision. If you arrive a few minutes early, review what you wrote in the waiting room before the interview.

5. Ask For The Job

You get what you ask for.
The most important step in the interviewing process is one most people miss. ASK FOR THE JOB! Most interviewers are waiting for that closure. If you have done everything exceptionally well during the interviewing process, but have not asked for the job, you’ve just wasted an interview. Asking for the job shows the potential employer that you are assertive, confident and right for the job. It might feel uncomfortable, but this is your only chance to ask for something you really want. Make sure your voice is firm and you make eye contact. Think of it as your closing argument, you’ve got to win over the jury. You should also ask the interviewer if he or she thinks you are right for the job. Even if they tell you something unpleasant, think of it as a lesson learned. However, do yourself a favor and ask for the job. You deserve it!

Job Tips --> Job Search Tips for Older Job Seekers

Job Search Tips and Strategies for Older Workers
By Alison Doyle

Bookmark
          and Share

I'm always a little surprised at how young can be considered old by employers. In some industries, especially high-tech, even mid-thirties can be considered old. In fact, I spoke to one computer programmer who considered the workers in his office who were over thirty old!

Unfortunately for older job seekers, the older you are, the longer it can take to get a job and the harder it can be to get hired.

What can you do to address age discrimination and promote your candidacy for employment? There are strategies older job seekers can implement to help expedite a job search and to find gainful, and meaningful, employment.

Job Search Tips for Older Workers

Resume Tips for Older Job Seekers

One way to overcome the perception that your age is an issue, is to age proof and edit your resume. Limiting what you include on your resume, from a chronological perspective, can help job seekers avoid the stigma of being considered "too old" by a prospective employer.

Cover Letter Tips for Older Job Seekers

Your cover letter is critical, as well. Review these cover letter tips for older job seekers, including what to include in your cover letter, how to showcase your skills, and how to effectively market your candidacy to employers.

Emphasize Your Relevant Experience

When writing your resume and your cover letters, there's no need to mention every job you've ever had. Include only the most recent positions and, if you attended college, don't list your graduation dates.

Fashion Tips for Older Job Seekers

You can strategically write your resume and cover letter, but you can't change the basic facts - your actual age and your employment history are etched in stone. However, there are ways you can work on your appearance when you are job searching. And that can make a big difference when you're interviewing. Here's how to update your job search image.

Use Your Network

Networking is still one of the best ways to find a job. Regardless of when you graduated, if your alma mater has a career network use it to contact alumni in your field of interest. Use online and offline networking resources to make connections to help with your job search.

Consider a Career Change

It can be easier than you might think to change careers. Here's advice on how to successful implement a mid-life career change.

Get Job Search Help

If you're struggling with your job search, consider seeking assistance. There are no-cost programs provided by OneStop Career Centers, non-profit groups, and local libraries, for example, that can assist.

Keep Your Skills Current

Everyone applying for employment, regardless of age, needs to be computer literate. If you can't send an email, or don't know what Instant Message is, take a computer class. There are classes offered, free or low-cost, by continuing education centers, churches, libraries, and school. The more current your skills, the better your prospects for finding employment.

Don't Give Up

Job searching typically isn't easy, regardless of how old you are. So, don't give up. It might take a while to find a job, but, there are employers who understand the value of an older worker with maturity, life experience, and skills.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CAREER TIPS - BE WISE

By jidaw.com

How to Tips for the Information Technology Career. Be Wise tips are to help you with developing careers in computers for Careers planning, career choices and IT career strategy.

Boosting computer careers - the computer career in computer and information systems - Information Technology Career Tips.

You will need to make career choices every step of the way. Decisions will be taken about IT certification, Computer education, Technical training, Practice tests, Study Guides, Exams, IT professionalism and jobs.

A successful IT Career is more about wisdom than anything else. BE WISE!

42. Too often our career growth is hindered because by “good” reasons. It isn’t a crime to experience hiccups in your career journey, but respond with positives - create time, improve your preparation, network, develop your skills.

Stop Planting Excuses. Be Wise. Excuses achieve nothing.
What “good” reason can there be for not updating yourself? What are the “good” reasons for your inconsistency? There is no middle ground. You’re either doing something to improve your career or you’re buried in the excuse planting season. If we sow excuses, what do we reap? What’s stopping you from starting? Why have you given up? Be honest, what do you really want from your career - results or excuses? There is no reward for excuses.

41. “Wait for perfect”, “stay with the crowd”, “don’t take risks”. Run, don’t walk away from such thoughts. The worship of fear is born to kill dreams. A programming career without audacity is one without substance and character. Want to build a successful career in Networking? Ignore the familiar and rock the boat! Be Wise. Your career decisions and growth can’t wait for 100% certainty.

Sure plan, do your research, finish your homework, choose wisely. But to start your IT career or business, never ever wait for perfect. And go beyond noise and popularity. What are you afraid of? The unknown, failure, rejection or becoming an outstanding contributor in the IT industry?

40. SUBSTANCE OR SHOW. Are your career decisions based on substance? Is programming the right path for you, or are you a “me-too” activist? Career growth requires taking risks. But what really is your motive? Money, show or purpose? Is certification what you need, or is the promotion in control? Be Wise. The choices we make are life changing.

Your training decision appears sensible, but how did you choose your course and training institution? What is the main issue driving your job change? Activity can never be a substitute for substance. What matters more - ceremony or career growth?

39. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. IT newcomer at zero level? Or does your career need a lift? Stop waiting for luck or fate. Enough of the excuses! You must own and drive your growth process. Are reward and fulfillment in your IT career horizon? Then banish fear and excuse. Be Wise. Provoke growth - Take risks. Seize the initiative. Connect with family, colleagues, counsellors for support and guidance. But never hand over your power. Nobody else is in charge of your movement forward. It’s your life. It’s your future. Responsibility for your growth lies with you.

38. THE OPPORTUNITY IN THE PROBLEM. When difficulties come how fast can you run? Are you one track minded when career efforts don’t seem to be working? Slow promotion, no job, “Boss-from-hell”? Tough! But develop your turnaround mentality and approach. Be Wise. Sometimes there are no right answers. Growth comes from being comfortable solving problems. Bad exam results do not mean bad IT professional. Career success has several routes. Is that challenge your full-stop or a seed for growth? Enough of the victim sing-song! Instead look for your opportunity in that problem.

37. HOPE IS NOT A STRATEGY. You have hope and can see opportunity in Information Technology, but are those enough to make your career happen? Where are you? Where are you going? Be Wise. Hoping for the best, “whatever will be, will be”?? Without a sense of direction how will you reach your full potential? What is the purpose of your IT education? Coordinate your efforts and plan with your priorities in mind. Ignore the noisy crowds - let the main issue be the main issue. It is your job to create your own path.

36. DO SOMETHING NOW. You have ideas and you love the IT profession. Great! But unless you act, all you get is a big fat zero. What’s your excuse? The environment isn't right? Expecting to be supported? Be Wise. Wait for perfect and wait forever. Take charge and start building your amazing IT career now. IT professional, make your knowledge move today! Challenges exist but create your own path by investing in effort. Sitting in the farm all day doesn't make you a farmer. It is what you do that matters. Take action. Grumbling never achieves.

35. MONEY HAS ITS LIMITS. To grow your IT career money helps for training, certification and books. But money is not the supreme ultimate resource. Stop allowing money to limit you! Be Wise. Can money cover up a dinosaur like attitude to tech learning? Or will money buy people networks or goodwill? Without putting in effort, time or common sense what is money? Does money mean creativity? Money assists but understand what money can do for your IT career, alternatives that exist and what you must do for yourself.

34. CREATIVITY IS NOT A LUXURY. You can't grow by feeding on the predictable. Are you satisfied with the one-way street of convention? Training and certifications aren't enough in the world of constant change. Be Wise. Think outside familiar and comfortable routines to create new value. Is the creative path stressful? Or does it look strange or crazy? So what? Open your mind! Status quo is dead. Growth is the reward for expanding your mental bandwidth. Let dead dogs rest in peace.

33. PURPOSE AND CONTRIBUTION. The IT professional must have goals and a purpose. But it's not just about your agenda. Direction is important but your technical strengths are nothing without the value balance. Be Wise. What are your priorities vis a vis contribution? The key driver for career growth isn't your Java certification or your agenda, but is instead the value you create. Are you solving problems with your programming skills? Does the business make more profit with your networking know-how? Contribution is what gives backbone to your agenda.

32. GET BEYOND THE CERTIFICATE. Has your learning experience honed your problem solving skills and your learning ability? Have you used the classroom to build personal networks and improve your people skills? Be Wise. As you learn, open up your mind to ways of making the right impact in your career. What you put into your learning effort will often determine what you get out of the experience. Do you want growth, or is the certificate your only goal? See further than the certification.

31. STOP LOOKING FOR GUARANTEES. Building a fulfilling IT career is not maths. Your Java knowledge doesn't guarantee anything. You need to step outside your comfort zone and take calculated risks if you want to succeed in Network security.
Be Wise. Real IT professionals tackle the unknown and also anticipate and embrace change. The silver bullet-shortcut-password mindset is for robots. Network with other people, take up challenges and apply wisdom while learning from your experiences - both good and bad.

30. IT IS NOT A HAPPY-GO-LUCKY PASTIME. It's about intense preparation and committing lifelong to a full-fledged career. Networking isn't flash-in-the-pan gambling. Or is programming an all comers affair? Be Wise. What is interest without the drive, without commitment? You should enjoy going the extra mile to look for the solutions, to remain current, rather than getting yourself hooked on quick fix supplied by the immediate results druggist.

29. The true IT professional is a positive, knowledgeable and supportive influence. Cisco guru, do you help or do you intimidate with your expertise? King of Java, are we safe in your hands? Be Wise. Trust is the mother of growth. But professionalism and trust isn't just about being "nice". It's also about having the courage and judgment to do the right thing in difficult situations.

28. You're perfect, right? Don't make me laugh! Nobody is an angel. But don't empower your weaknesses. Why let limitations bully you into defeat? Be Wise. Grow, learn from mistakes and empower your positives. Who are you and what do you offer? Despite shortcomings make a difference, be a positive contributor, with your attitude and tech know-how. It is your mission.

27. Knowledge is a "must-have" for your IT career. But have a clear understanding of what knowledge tools (training, education, certification) can and cannot do. What can knowledge do for you and what do you need to do for yourself? Be Wise. While knowledge confers advantage, it doesn't guarantee anything. Without a positive solid ethics attitude, initiative and people skills the train isn't leaving the station.
26. Stop asking only questions about pay, jobs and benefits. Your salary is not your value. Be wise. Growth comes from service and contribution. Ask the right questions: Is there a future in IT? Does that future include me? How do I empower myself to become a value provider?

25. What is your staying power in IT like? You can't afford to get burnt or worn out by the incredible rate of change and challenges. Be Wise. No matter how well you start and perform, how worthwhile is your effort if you don't finish? Develop your backbone with a can-do, can-bounce-back attitude. Achievement requires resilience - commitment and perseverance in the face of change and obstacles..

24. Sometimes less is more if you get your priorities right. Vegetating away at a job that doesn't enhance your value, simply because of the money is downright dangerous. Is it just about the pay packet? Be Wise. Growth is when you are creating opportunities for yourself now and in future. It isn't just about a meal ticket.

23. The worst thing you can do to your IT career is to take important decisions, such as investing in certification, without thinking about your long-term career focus. Be Wise. How will your decisions and investment take you from where you are to where you should be? Having a long-term career focus is the single most important driver for high quality career achievement.

22. Run, don't walk away, from any training provider that says you're guaranteed a job if you register for classes with them. Be Wise. Are you more interested in giving somebody money than your education or career?

21. As you gather experience in the industry, don't burn bridges you might need tomorrow. Be Wise. It is easier to succeed when you build your own personal network of individuals that you can rely on for advice, job leads, technical assistance and other helpful support.

20. Have a passion for what you do. Understand, and be happy, with what you do. Be Wise. It's difficult to be motivated; it's difficult to excel when you work at something you don't like.

19. You can't claim to like the IT field and yet be unwilling to make the effort required for constant knowledge acquisition. Be Wise. In the IT field, ignorance is the path of the dinosaur.

18. Don't run from challenges that will crop up from time to time in the course of your career. Be Wise. Often challenges are an opportunity to conquer a difficult area, and carve a niche for yourself.

17. Your career is about value. Be Wise. Certifications, tech skills, degrees, experience don't amount to much if you can't use them to create real business value.

16. Focus on substance rather than style when taking career decisions. Be Wise. "All that glitters is not gold". Avoid becoming a hostage, always choose career value over popularity and hype.

15. No IT career is better than the other. Be Wise. "One man's meat is another man's poison". The best career for YOU should be based on YOUR interests, assets and abilities.

14. Setting career goals is important. But planning is a lame excuse for unfruitful career indecision. Be Wise. Your IT Career isn't just about planning. It's also about doing, not promising to do. You must follow through.
13. Approach your IT Career like a marathon, not a short sprint. Be Wise. If immediate results are what you are after, then the IT field might not be for you.

12. As an IT professional, maximize your career advantage by developing a good combination of soft skills and IT knowledge. Be Wise. Of what value are your IT skills, if you can't effective present yourself or your skills?

11. The acquisition of popular advanced level certifications by newcomers is not a guarantee of jobs. Beginners need to master the basics before moving to the advanced. Be Wise. Why waste your money and time on advanced level training and certification that is not useful to you at your level?

10. Integrity is the hallmark of a true IT professional. A bad reputation spreads faster than wild fire. Be Wise. Solid tech and soft skills will not take you anywhere if you can't be trusted.

9. Sometimes the career advice you need to hear may sound upsetting to you. Don't listen only to what you want to hear. Be Wise. Choose Brutal but honest over nice but self-deceit. Use frank but painful advice to make the necessary changes that will grow your career.

8. As you invest in knowledge and self-development don't carried away by "the best". Can you make the effort? The best instructors, books, training centers cannot replace your effort. Be Wise. It is one thing to have "the best" tools, it is another thing to make the effort.

7. Learn from your mistakes and from your successes. Be Wise. If don't make any mistakes, you're not doing anything. You learn and grow not only from what you did right but also from what you messed up.

6. As you develop your IT skills and knowledge never confuse repetition with practice or learning. Be Wise. Mindless repetition on its own is cramming. Repetition must be combined with analysis and understanding to be of benefit to you.

5. Experience is essential for a career in IT. But depending solely on experience limits growth. Be Wise. What is experience without passion or initiative?
Experience on its own restricts you to what you do on a regular basis. To get real value from work experience - Invest in lifelong learning. Invest in a success-driven attitude.

4. Interest in an IT career is of no value without action. Be Wise. Interest is cheap. Effort will cost you. What're you doing? What are you investing to achieve your career goal? Time, money, books or just interest?

3. You will need to use career tools and your personal network as you progress in your career. But don’t be totally dependent on others. Be Wise. Learn how to dig deep by your own effort. To move without resourcefulness is to move in reverse. Besides, whose career is it anyway?

2. IT is not a “get-rich-quick” scheme. IT is professionally and financially rewarding if you focus on acquiring practical skills and building your career rather than on sudden, immediate wealth. Be Wise. Nobody is in IT for the sole purpose of making you rich. If “fast money” is your sole aim, you won’t last under the intense workload and incredible rate of change.

1. Personal networking is essential for career growth. Over 80% of all career opportunities are found through networking. But your personal network doesn't work for you alone. It isn't a self-centered one-man show. Be Wise. What do you contribute to the network? The key to having a strong and dependable personal network is not "receive only" or "give to receive", but instead it is "give more than you receive."

A successful IT Career is more about wisdom than anything else. BE WISE!

Interview Tip : When the First Interview Is a Phone Call

By PHYLLIS KORKKI

Some companies sometimes receiving hundreds of applications for a single job, it is becoming more common for hiring managers to conduct initial screening interviews over the phone. This saves them considerable time and money — especially if a candidate lives out of town.

Don’t take these interviews lightly. “It is important to prepare for a telephone interview just as you would for a regular interview,” said Alison Doyle, a job search specialist for About.com, which is owned by The New York Times Company.

The employer will normally call or e-mail you in advance to set up an interview time. If possible, arrange for the interview to be over a landline phone, as it tends to be more reliable than a cellphone. Make sure that children, pets and other sources of interruption will be out of the room. Keep a glass of water nearby.

Phone interviews can often last a half-hour to an hour, Ms. Doyle said; be sure to have your resume in front of you, along with a list of your accomplishments. Long pauses or halting responses caused by a lack of preparation could keep you from making it to the next stage. Do your best to be personable, but don’t overdo it by, say, trying to tell a joke and guffawing.

One advantage of a phone interview is that you don’t need to worry about what to wear (although dressing up might make you feel more confident). But some companies have started to conduct video interviews, Ms. Doyle said, sending Webcams to be used temporarily by applicants who don’t have them at home.

Office tips: How to maintain a clean work environment

by Silva Payne

There is a mantra that says "a messy desk is a productive desk". While this may be true, a messy desk need not be a dirty one. If you work in an office, there are a few ways in which you can maintain a clean work environment that will help reduce the risk of injury, loss or illness.

Typically, desks are grouped either in cubicles where 2 workers sit with their backs to each other, or placed to create small islands where workers face each other. If you share a cubicle, it is very easy to become possessive about the space you and your co-worker occupy. This is particularly the case if your co-worker is less interested in hygiene or tidiness than you are.

Start with the most obvious basics: cups, plates, food wrappers and hot food. There are often occasions when you may want to work through lunch, and eat at your desk. It is always best to avoid eating hot food directly over your keyboard, as any dropped between the keys will be almost impossible to remove completely. Disposing of hot food containers should be done away from your desk. Your co-worker may love a good hot curry as much as you do, but may not want to smell it all afternoon long. Take the debris into a disposal area where it can be enclosed to prevent odors escaping.

Crumbs from cold snacks can also find their way into the keyboard, and more likely into your computer mouse. Remember to remove the ball and clean the insides of your mouse regularly as it will pick up a large amount of fluff and dust just though normal use. If you regularly have tea, coffee or other beverages at your desk, try to use a place mat. This will help prevent sticky rings appearing on other surfaces, which will almost certainly make their way onto any important documents you have.

Being aware of your surroundings will also help you to maintain a clean working environment. When you get up from your desk, remember to push your chair in and not leave it in the walkway. Try to keep your paperwork and files in from the edge of your desk so that any passer-by will not knock them onto the floor. If you have a waste paper basket, keep it tucked under your desk, and use a plastic liner; this stops any liquid waste from sitting at the bottom of the basket and turning sour.

Finally, maintaining a clear desk also extends to data security practices. When you are away from your desk, put away any documents or data out of sight, preferably locked in a drawer. Remember to either turn off your computer or lock the screen, and never disclose your password to anyone. Shred all documents after use, and never place them in the waste paper bin. Pay particular attention to documents containing client contact details and financial information, but getting into the habit of shredding all documentation is a good thing.

Keeping your work space clean and tidy will help you find things in a hurry, hopefully without knocking over your coffee onto them in the process!

Are You in a Negative Work Environment? 5 Tips to Change It

by Catherine Pratt

Whether you love your job or hate going to work every day can depend a lot on whether you work in a positive or a negative work environment. We’ve all been in the situation where we seem to be working with dysfunctional people and in an area that’s more toxic than a nuclear waste dump. It’s frustrating and draining and a lot of the time you end up thinking that you’re going to have to find another job. But, there will always be negative people everywhere you go. The trick is to learn how to deal with those people. Part of the frustration comes from feeling that you are helpless to do anything. This article will show that you do have the power to change your environment.

1. What’s your own mindset?

There is an African proverb that says,

"when you cross someone on your path who is more committed to their hatred than you are to your love, then their hatred will take the place of your love.”

The moral of this proverb is that you need to make the commitment to yourself that you will walk with positive thoughts and have joy for life. Don’t let the negative people bring you down. It’s very easy to get caught in that trap. Step 1 is to be aware of your thoughts and try to focus on the positive. Listen to your thoughts, are they positive or negative? If they’re negative, try to look at the situation from a different angle and make it a positive. This gets easier with practice. Also, just because everyone around you is unhappy doesn’t mean you have to be. This can be tough to do but it’s definitely worth it. If you can train yourself to be positive in these types of situations, you will be able to deal with almost any situation you come across. Remember, most of the time environments are all in how you think about them. If you think it’s a horrible place to be and there’s no hope, that’s exactly how it will be. If you look at it as a learning experience and a challenge to come up with meaningful solutions, you will be able to find the answers.

2. Are you a part of the problem or the solution?

Negativity quickly spreads from one person to another. If you constantly complain to others about how bad it is, then you become a part of the problem because you're adding fuel to an already depressing situation.

For example, is there someone on your team that drives you completely crazy? They are always complaining about everything, don’t want things to change, constantly put down others, never seem to do their fair share of work yet are always griping that they’re overworked. Sound familiar? The more you talk about this person to other members on your team, people in your organization, even to your friends and family, you and everyone you complain to, are all becoming just like your co-worker. Pessimistic and unhappy. Things get worse and worse instead of better. It’s like the African proverb, you have become committed to the same attitude as the person you are spending so much time complaining about. The more you talk about them the more power you are giving them and in the end the person you hurt the most is yourself.

3. Are you waiting for someone else to fix the situation?

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that your boss should take care of the situation. So, you wait for them to do something. They are after all the one in charge, right? Wrong. Dealing with personalities is one of the hardest jobs a manager has to deal with. A lot of managers don’t understand why people just can’t do their jobs and why there’s so much personal confrontation. They’re not trained to deal with emotions and they may not have a clue on how to handle it. They’re trained to deal with issues like productivity and the bottom line, not personality conflicts. If you can suggest solutions then you’re not only solving your own problems but you’re going to be viewed as a much more valuable employee. This also has the benefit of making you realize that you’re not a helpless victim. You have the power to make your own changes and you’re the one in control of how you view the situation and how you handle it.

4. Step Back, Take a Look at the View

Say, that same co-worker in the above example snaps at you and never has anything nice to say to you. Your feelings are hurt and you don’t understand why they always seem to say such mean things to you. Take a step back and think about why the person may be behaving the way they do. There could be a lot of reasons. It could be anything from family issues to the fact that they feel they’re not living up to their potential and feel stuck in their current job. It could be something as simple as they feel like they’re being excluded by the group and they just need to be included in more conversations and coffee breaks. Most likely it doesn't really have anything to do with you. That person may just be in a negative mental space and everything in their world is lousy. It wouldn't matter who you were they would be making the same snide comments. It’s not personal against you. It’s just how they view everything around them. It can be hard for people to get out of a negative groove when they’ve been that way for awhile. It’s like the saying that someone sees events around them with "rose coloured glasses” except in this case they have "mud coloured" glasses.

If you can maintain a positive attitude it won’t affect you as much. You’ll know it's a reflection of where the negative person is at, not you. They’re negative energy and they’re looking to attract more negative energy. If you're positive, you're on a different level. If you try to look at the big picture and think where the comments are coming from it makes it much easier.

Everything is all in how you look at it and how you decide to let it affect you. You have the power to choose. You can learn from it or you can just let it eat you up. It's completely your choice.

5. Quit fighting the symptoms, go for the cause

Positive energy can spread just as quickly as negative energy. You just need to start the ball rolling. People get trapped in the victim mode and feel that there’s nothing they can do. If they start to see that changes can happen they may be more willing to come up with their own solutions to add to yours. The majority of people want to be positive but just don’t know how.

A good way to start is to come up with solutions to solve some of the problems you see occurring. It’s really important for you to try to find the root cause of the situation and not get caught up in fighting just the symptoms. For example, one person is always complaining that they’re overworked, the phone is ringing off the hook and that there is no one to help them. Your first thought might be that your company needs to hire another person to help out. But, this probably isn’t the root cause and in most companies it’s probably hard to find the extra dollars in the budget to hire another person. Plus, you’re back to expecting someone else to solve the problem.

Here’s another option. Track the phone calls. What are most of the calls in regards to? Are most of the calls related to the hours that your business is open, people unable to find the product information they need, people trying to book appointments? Once you know that, try to find alternatives for people to get the information they need without having to make a phone call. For example, could the information be posted on a web site, are there brochures you could give people, is the information people are receiving too confusing and just needs to be re-written?

Try to determine if there are things you can do to alleviate the real problems. Can processes be streamlined, can procedures be made more efficient? It’s amazing how much difference even one little change can make to improve a situation. You just need to start looking and figuring out some possible answers.

In Summary

Whether you love your job or hate it is really going to depend on how you view it and what you’re willing to do about it. You have much more power than you may think. Instead of feeling like it’s hopeless, view it as a challenge to actually make a real difference in your workplace. You’ll appreciate the results as will your co-workers. You definitely have the power to change a negative environment into a positive, fun place to be. You can do it.

5 Tips For Creating a Relational Work Environment

By Lisa Merlo Booth

I'm shocked when I hear and see what goes on in some work environments. Between managers being cold and rude to their employees, bosses yelling at employees, managers refusing to be accountable for their own mistakes yet demanding their employees be accountable for theirs and co-workers talking bad about one another, it's no wonder companies often do so poorly.

When companies create a cutthroat work environment and don't take care of their employees, the odds of that company making it decrease drastically. Why? Because high tension, non-relational work environments lead to high turnover, lower productivity, more infighting and loads of resentment. The bottom line is: not taking care of your employees is just plain BAD BUSINESS.
Here are 5 things business leaders can do to create a healthy work environment:

1. Speak to all employees with respect at all times. No matter how big the mistake, never allow any one to be verbally assaulted by anyone in the company. Create an atmosphere where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities not shaming opportunities.

2. As a leader, model healthy communication. Build your employees up rather than tearing them down. Teach them and mentor them-don't scold and shame them.

3. Model what you want your employees to master. If you want excellent customer service than give excellent customer service. If you want your employees to be accountable, then you be accountable. Own your mistakes and they will feel as though they can own theirs.

4. Be available and approachable. Just because you own the company or are in a position of authority does not mean you are too important for people to talk to. Be real, be humble and be approachable. Have an open door policy-it will help you keep your finger on the pulse of your company.

5. Create a supportive atmosphere in your company and listen to your employee's complaints. Have your employees back and encourage them to have one another's back. Competition should be with other companies not within your own.

The best companies realize that when they take care of their employees their employees take care of them. Creating a great work environment lowers the turnover rate, increases productivity and leads to more creativity and ingenuity in the workplace. All of these factors increase the bottom line.

Creating a healthy work environment is one of the best business decisions a leader will ever make. If you struggle with a short fuse, are harsh with your employees or treat your employees like they are peons, then get yourself healthy. The success of your company will depend on it.

CHALLENGE: If you are a leader in your company, then learn to lead effectively. Create a healthy work environment-starting with you. Model what you want your employees to master. Refuse to allow anyone in the company to tear anyone else down. Encourage honest, open dialogue and when your employees to use their voice-listen.

Effective Survival Tips in a Hostile Work Environment

By Mesriani_Law_Group

A hostile work environment is something that most employees do not want to experience in a company. But whether they like it or not, such things do exist in the workplace. However, not all hostile work environments are intentional. Sometimes, employees just need to voice out their concerns for their employer to adjust his policies and programs for their benefit.

If you want to survive a hostile work environment, follow these tips:

Work on yourself
If you feel a hostile working atmosphere, learn how to control your feelings. Remember that your job is to work in the company – nothing more, nothing less. You can always use the counting technique before saying a word or doing something.

Do not expect work to be pleasurable
Many employees fail in this one aspect of work. Although there are work and careers that bring fun and satisfaction to employees, work in itself is ultimately a serious issue altogether. Work is about business and money, two things that are always treated seriously by people.

Learn to accept criticisms
Some workers regard criticisms as hostile environment, but actually they are not. They should just learn how to improve themselves with the help of some painful or even funny words from their colleagues or superiors.

Stick to your beliefs
Do not keep silent. You have to make your thoughts and opinions known. When you make an action or you say something, you can always do something to defend it. You do not have to follow everything your boss or supervisor says.

Be creative
Hostile work environments are usually strict and prohibit employees from taking certain actions. But you can always look at the brighter side of it. Being limited to what you are allowed to do gives you new ideas, thoughts and goals at work.

Resort to your legal options
In case you have followed the tips but the hostile work environment just would not go away, maybe it is time to seek legal help. To put an end to the hostile work environment, you need to hire an employment law lawyer in Los Angeles and file a complaint against the employer.

Companies with hostile work environments would not be a friendly place for employees who have just started their careers. But after reading these tips, at least they get a glimpse of what they should do and what not to do in these kinds of situation. To know more about hostile work environment and other employment issues, they can consult a Los Angeles labor attorney.

7 Important Factors in Choosing a Good Work Environment

by Jordan Slaman

When you are thinking of moving around your desk or choosing a new place to work, it may be a good idea to keep some of the following things in mind. Do a quick check around you and with a couple adjustments you should find it easier to work and you will be able to work longer and more efficiently.

1. Lighting
Having a good light source is important for using your important, and natural light is quite refreshing, But If you have a dim monitor or if it’s too bright to see your computer screen easily there is a problem. Try to find a balance between the two, or a dimmer would be Ideal. Even a small table lamp you can turn on to read a paper document better would be useful. Having light helps you feel less stressed and allows you to concentrate on what you are doing without any strain or discomfort.

2. Comfortable seating
Getting an ergonomic chair for your desk may be expensive and it certainly isn’t necessary. Find a chair that is comfortable to sit on but keeps your back straight and gives you good back support. Dining room chairs usually have nice back support but lack in the comfort, where a fluffy living room chair gives you all the comfort you need and leaves you leaning forward, or spending to much time relaxing. Try to find a balance in between the two. Most office chairs work fine.

3. Organization / Clean environment
Trying to find something is never productive. Having to search through stuff is a hassle and takes up valuable time, along with making you feel overwhelmed. Just get some baskets, a filing cabinet system or drawers. Clean is equally important. When you are in a neat and tidy working environment without grime or dirt it’s much easier to focus. Try a shower or even just putting on a clean shirt may make you feel refreshed and ready to work.

4. Distractions
Music may make you feel good but usually it doesn’t help. Neither does a blaring TV, someone walking past or your e-mail inbox. They say that curiosity killed the cat,  It also kills productivity. While checking your e-mails, or who walked past may only lose you a couple seconds you also lose your train of thought and focus. Make sure you aren’t looking at a busy street or have a view of the kitchen or other busy places. If you know a roommate plays loud music then set up your study space down the hall. If there is nothing to distract you it’s a lot easier to get through something as you don’t have to go back and re- do the calculation or try to remember what you had planned out for the next sentence. If you must check your e-mails while your working delay until it’s necessary as that would give you a better chance of only having to check once.

5. Plants / Trinkets
Having a few photos, artwork, ceramic pigs, or whatever trinket you may like may not be directly productive. If they help create a positive work environment It’s worth it anyways. Bringing a little more uniqueness to the area may help you feel more comfortable working there. Plants are also helpful, You can pick one you like and nurture it, while it gives you a steady stream of oxygen. Useful in a stuffy room, It just helps you stay focused.

6. Consider emotional-ties to a work area
It’s interesting how being certain places can strike up certain feelings. For example,  re-visiting where you played as a kid may make you happier. Try to do the same for your study space. Avoid places where you have been un-productive before. For example your bed room is likely a bad place to work as your subconscious mind associates being there with relaxing. If you have a bad memory that happened somewhere in your house you may not want to study there as it may bring up those feelings again, or just depress you in general. The best place to work is someplace new so you can make your own productive mindset around that area.

7. Temperature
When you are feeling warm a nice cool breeze can keep you refreshed and when you are cold heat will give you a fuzzy feeling inside. Make sure you are at a comfortable temperature but avoid becoming too comfortable or you may switch into relax mode. and begin thinking about something else. A refreshing breeze can be useful when you are having trouble focusing.

Productivity in the workplace

by Jordan Slaman

Here are a couple tips that I have thought of or have helped me in the past to stay on top of it all, your life can get busy quickly so here’s a guide to maximizing your effectiveness in the workplace, bookmark it, print it or have your boss hang it up on the bulletin board because this should help…

1. Stay organized.
To most people, it’s plain as day. But, to some it seems a pointless idea, not worth wasting time on. But trust us, it helps. Having a clean desk and an organized computer can help you find everything so much faster, but not just that, it makes you feel better about yourself and the workload seems so much lighter. Now, if you’re worried about people (especially your boss!) thinking you don’t spend enough time doing ‘real’ work, then depending on the situation you can reply with: “Just trying to keep on top of it all.” Or, to really stop your boss in his tracks: “It helps me work better.” Keeping everything neat only takes a couple minutes a week and will keep you at ease and productive. If you acquire this important life skill then everyone, most importantly your spouse will appreciate it.

2. Build a crude time schedule.
Most people have already done this, and you probably have as well. Does this sound familiar? “Wake up around 6:30. Have breakfast at 7:00.” It helps you stay on track, so you know approximately how much time it takes to drive to work or get coffee, so you’re always on schedule.

3. Plan tasks around your time, not the other way around.
Although you may need to create extra time for larger projects, try to keep all of your assigned tasks in a schedule. Estimate the amount of time required to do each task, and put them in so you know what to do and when. Try not to put all the bad stuff aside for last or you’ll usually end up working through the weekend. If you’ve extra time in your schedule, don’t slack off. You will have more time left over to have fun in the end. Always keep your schedule open in case there’re any surprises. Experiment with the times, and after a while you will be flying from one task to the next. Feel free to fix up your schedule if it’s not working for you, remember that nothing is etched in stone.

4. Take short breaks.
BLABLA
Although this seems like the complete opposite of what you are trying to do, taking a break of one to ten minutes to clear your mind and release tension can really help. Being more relaxed and comfortable, you will find it easier to work and be more productive. Try to stand up and stretch, or get a quick drink to refresh yourself and get ready to spend more time working.

5. Block websites
If you find yourself to be one of those people who can easily get distracted and spend lots of time on the web looking at anything but your work, then you may need some restraint. Getting a child website blocker or even some post-it reminders might help you stay focused and save those sites for your coffee break. Look online for some good, free open-source website blockers if you think it’ll help you get stuff done.

6. Backup
I have lost so much time this year resetting my computer to the way I like it. And I back-up twice a week. Imagine if I didn’t! I’d spend even more time redoing work I missed. So save yourself time by backing up frequently to a disk, external hard drive or server. You never know when gremlins will run away with your work.

7. Music
Some people may think it helps but usually it doesn’t. There is nothing wrong with listening to music while you work, but most people listen to the wrong type of music. I’m not asking you to listen to classical music… just don’t let it take up all of your attention. Music without lyrics, or music that doesn’t make you want to sing along is fine. Nature sounds are the best, try to just get some subtle background noise where you work if you find you work better with it. Some people work better in complete silence. Sometimes website background sound can be nice at a low volume, as long as it doesn’t get annoying.

8. Take courses
This may take a lot of your time out of your schedule now, but it should help in the long run. Don’t forget that your boss will love that you have a couple organizational type courses on your resume!

Time Management Goal Setting Done Efficiently

By Bing Wang

Goal setting is always a good idea. It doesn't really matter what we are talking about. But goal setting is especially important when it comes to time management. When you know your goals, you are in a better position to accomplish all the things that you need to accomplish. The first thing is to gain an understanding of how to achieve the best time management goal setting.

Prior to setting up your goals, you need to give some thought as to what it is that you will need to get done. Are there a number of tasks ahead of you on a given day? Are you interested in making better use of the time you have at hand? Are you interested in freeing up some time that you can put to personal use? Questions such as these can help you set up your goals in the right way.

It is only when you know what you want to accomplish that the actual goal setting should commence. Deal with your short-term goals first of all. Can you do more than one of these on a given day? If so, do that. Keep things simple. This is going to help you to keep motivated and not get bogged down by details.

Once these short-term goals are accomplished, it's time to think of your long-term goals. Don't let yourself be bogged down by too many short-term goals at a time. You want to give yourself a good reason for staying motivated when you are trying to accomplish something that will take more time than usual.

Good time management goal setting means, among other things, a way to challenge yourself but not to the point of making things look impossibly difficult. Too many easy chores can undermine your motivation, but goals that may be too formidable may set you up for failure. So make sure that your goal is realistic. This is always a good idea.

Another good idea is, of course, to reward yourself whenever you fulfill a certain task. The reward should be comparable to the goal achieved. A small task done may need no more reward than an ice cream cone. If it's been a big deal, treat yourself to something you have been wanting for quite a while, something like a new computer.

Time management goal setting is one of the things that can make your life more enjoyable in a general way. If you know how to set up your goals, you are going to avoid the miseries that lots of people experience when they are not managing their time as well as they should.

Quit Wasting Your Precious Time! 7 of the BEST Ways to Get Time Back on Your Side!

By Rob Mead

That great quote from the famous English writer, Charles Colton, sums up the lives of most working Americans today. People think they have no time for anything constructive to do after working all day, shopping, working out at the gym, and cleaning their house/apartment day after day. People throw away any precious time that might actually have on watching TV shows and movies that have nothing to offer the viewer except mindless entertainment. Americans should use their "little patches of time" he alludes to in that quote to get their life goals met in an immediate fashion. Here are seven of the best ways to not only manage your time to produce better results in reaching the goals in your life, but they also show you how you can double your energy and free up at least 50% MORE hours in your life to achieve everything you've always wanted to accomplish on a daily basis.

1. If it's unnecessary, get rid if it! The people in this world who continue to procrastinate over matters like getting a better job or buying a better car are usually the ones who have a pile of useless magazines and books in their living room that are just taking up space. They just leave them there collecting dust and mold, along with the myriad other items they have in their homes like shampoos they've used once, broken furniture and computer equipment that have proven useless, and clothes they never wear. These people are usually called "pack rats", and if you really want to be successful in life don't ever become one. Unnecessary items are a huge waste of time and energy on your day-to-day life, but few people see it that way. Let's say you have a magazine subscription and you spend 2 days reading it, then throw it on the other pile of magazines. Those two days probably constitute 8 hours you could have used to research better employment opportunities at "Monster.com", or you could have gone out looking for a great deal on a used car, and gotten rid of your huge, gas-guzzling SUV that is broken down in the shop most of the time. That SUV is costing you more than just money. The time it takes to find a good repair shop, and the many hours you waste waiting for it to get repaired add up to 2-3 weeks of your time wasted on a yearly basis. The useless books that you sometimes read also throws away your precious time. If you spend 5 hours a month reading a Judith Krantz novel you have laying around, that adds up to 60 hours a year you could be doing something more productive. Every minute of the day that is wasted on items you have around the house builds up into hours of your life that you will never get back. Now that you have a better understanding of the time management lesson I am stating here, go to that pile of magazines/books and throw away everything you never really intend to read. Believe me, you'll never miss 'em! Weekly number of productive hours gained by using this step: 6

2. Your life must be balanced. The problem with people who are called "work-alholics" is not that they're not getting their work done, their main problem is they will eventually burn out from the "all work and no play" rule. On the other end, you have people who party all the time and never set any real goals. They fail because they will run out of money, or become strung out on drugs and overdose, or even become homeless in the worst case scenario. You might be in the "work-alholic" category if you have a feeling that you're missing out on all the fun other people are having. So put aside one day a week to take in a movie, go to a new night club, or see a concert of a band you really love. As long as you are meeting your self-employment or regular employment goals, then you are on the right path career-wise anyway. Having a really fun time one day of the week always insures against the burnout factor that is so prevalent in high-pressure jobs like air traffic controller, police officer, office manager and other stressful positions. If you start a habit that you can adapt to enrich your life, by all means do it. And that includes treating yourself to life's pleasures on a continual basis. On the other hand, if you are feeling right now that you are about to go bankrupt, or you feel overwhelmed by the bills that are piling up because of your care-free lifestyle, you really need to manage more time to get to the income level that you need. Instead of going out to the bar and hanging with your friends every Friday night, you should instead be hitting the internet for self-employment ideas, or looking at job sites to find a part-time job that you would actually enjoy, like bartender or game tester at a video game company. Always look for balancing your weekly schedule to include both productive, hard-working hours and fun care-free hours and you will actually free up at least 5 hours a week of more productive time. Weekly number of productive hours gained by using this step: 5

3. Make sure you spend quality time on your health. Your health has a direct impact on the energy you will be able to expend on your productive hours of the day. Have you ever noticed how overweight people tend to do everything very slow, including walking, riding a bicycle, even talking? That's because they eat way too much fatty foods that contain animal products, which take a lot more time to digest than vegetables and fruits. The extra energy the body expends on that longer digestion period takes away from a person's overall body and mind energy. You lose mental and physical productivity from eating fast-food, so whatever you're eating that you feel is unhealthy, stop eating it right now! Many a great thinker over history has always said that a eating a light lunch gives you a huge advantage over your counterparts who lose energy throughout the day because they had a heavy meal. If you ever feel woozy, like you might actually pass out during the day, that is a big sign that your energy level is not high enough. You need to consult your doctor or dietitian about putting you on a healthier diet immediately. That will give you more productive hours in your week, because you'll have the energy to be quicker and more accurate at all your job/personal goals. Regular exercise is just as important as eating healthy. A healthy and energetic body is the real key to better time management than anything else, so you must have a daily exercise routine to keep your energy level up. Difficult tasks that come up on a daily basis are best handled by somebody that is in great physical condition, as opposed to somebody who is 50 pounds overweight. That should be common knowledge by now. It doesn't mean you have to work out at Family Fitness every day for 2 hours, you just have to do at least 30 minutes a day of either jogging, lifting weights or aerobics. Anything that makes your heart circulate blood flow is a damn good thing. By getting rid of body fat by eating right, and regular exercise, you should free up at least 8 more hours a week to going out there and getting those life goals accomplished. Weekly number of productive hours gained by using this step: 8

4. Multitasking should be a daily ritual. The various ways in which great businessmen multi-task are amazing when you think about it. The word "multi-tasking" didn't even exist eight years ago, but now it's the greatest catchphrase in the business and entrepreneurial world. The definition of the term is basically mixing two or more tasks that you do individually on a daily basis and doing them together. A good way to start applying this to your regular routine would be to start reading a self-help book or magazine on income opportunities while watching TV or listening to a cd. By combining these two things, you are actually doing something productive to enhance your life goals (reading a self-help book), while still enjoying leisure time (listening to the latest cd from "U2"). Take a magazine or news article from a business trade newspaper with you to a grocery store or car wash. While you are waiting in line or waiting for your car to be dried off, read the articles and take notes either in your head or on a notepad. This can free up countless hours of productive time every year if done correctly.

The new crop of audio books written by business gurus like Donald Trump and Steve Forbes are a perfect tool for developing skills you want to master. Just get in your car, pop in the cd or audio cassette, and you are on your way to better reaching those business skills for your new self-employment venture. You should only use multi-tasking at the appropriate time, such as cooking dinner, air travel or waiting for your car to be repaired at the local Goodyear. If you think this exercise is draining on your energy level, nothing could be farther from the truth. Multi-tasking actually tends to make people much more energized in their daily lives, so make sure it's a part of yours too! Weekly number of productive hours gained by using this step: 25

5. Concentration on the work at hand is essential. When people are working either at the office, or at home, they tend to get distracted by their surroundings or the people in their immediate radius. If people are being loud or rude, just go up to them and tell them politely that your are trying to do some important work, and please take their conversation elsewhere. If you are being distracted by a loud TV or radio in your home, have the person watching the TV or listening to the radio turn it down immediately. They have to know that what you are working on is very important to meeting your business goals, and if they don't respect that, then there will be a problem that you will gladly solve one way or another. Don't be timid when it comes to this. Most people will respect another person's personal space. Another way to concentrate for better productivity is by re-energizing yourself. If you've never heard of the phrase "power nap", it is a great way to take a 15-minute break from the heavy workload you are working on during the day. That short of a rest period perfectly re-energizes your mind and body so that when you wake up, you can get another 4 or more hours of great productivity into the remainder of your day. Eating some fresh fruit periodically revives your body and gives you more energy as well, allowing you to concentrate better on your work, thus giving you more productive minutes every hour in your workday. Weekly number of productive hours gained by using this step: 5

6. Every second of time is precious: guard them with your life! Your productivity in your daily life is only enhanced by having major chunks of uninterrupted time to use for your accomplishing your tasks at hand. It doesn't matter if the tasks are work goals or general life tasks, I cannot stress enough how important you need those designated times when nobody and nothing interrupts you. The ideal amount of time per day for uninterrupted time blocks would be 120 minutes. Give the people around you due notice when the time of day comes up for your own personal time chunk to start. Try to figure out a time frame when your roommate is working, your kids are in school, or your husband/wife is out for the day/night. It is a well-known fact that it takes at least 15 minutes to enter a state of real productivity, and another 15 minutes to get back into it if somebody or something interrupts you. You cannot fully appreciate uninterrupted productivity time until you've experienced it for yourself. I am actually writing this article now using the time I've blocked myself away from my roommate who I know will be at work for the next five hours. Think about the schedule that the other people in your home have right now, and write down a good time frame to do an important task when the other person isn't around, and see for yourself how much more productive you can be. 7. Always be aware of your goals at all times. The great businessman, Bo Bennett once said, "Success is about enjoying what you have and where you are, while pursuing achievable goals." That statement could not be more true. Even if you do have a certain amount of success in your life, you need to keep pursuing achievable goals and be aware of what they are on a day-to-day basis. Your goals need to be specific and they need to be put in writing. Daily journals are a must for most business people to be aware of their goals they need to accomplish every week. I would suggest you go to Staples right now and spend the 10 bucks on a decent journal or daily notebook and jot down your goals for this coming week. If you have a calendar in your room, and you have an important deadline you need to reach, write down what goal you need to accomplish on that day in bold red ink in the calendar. That will really get the message through to your brain to achieve that deadline goal, and you will be more aware of wasting too much time on the internet, or watching TV, thus freeing up more productive time. If your goal this month is to hit $12,000 in sales, then the other things you are involved with that does nothing to achieve that sales figure will be thrown away by the wayside by your ability to concentrate on that sales goal. If you are still waiting around for the universe to tell you what to do to achieve your dreams in life, wake up now before it's too late. Concentrate on what your clear goal in life is: Is it more money? Is it more personal time with your kids? Write down what you want, and you will get it someday!
