Markets appeared to react well to news of the bail-out, with the euro strenghening and most Asian stocks trading higher on Monday.

Once known as the Celtic Tiger for its strong economic growth - helped by low corporate tax rates - a property bubble burst, leaving the country's banks with huge liabilities and pushing up the cost of borrowing for them and the government.

EU Finance Commissioner Olli Rehn, speaking in Brussels, said the loans would be provided to Ireland over a three-year period and the assistance would help preserve the stability of the eurozone - the group of 16 nations using the euro as their common currency.

There was a real sense of urgency as eurozone finance ministers held a conference call trying to agree as much of this as they could before the markets open on Monday.
The European Central Bank said this was all about safeguarding the financial stability of the euro and the eurozone. The German finance minister said this was not about defending a country - namely Ireland - but about defending a common currency.
What was driving all of this was the fear of contagion - that Ireland's problem could spread to other eurozone countries such as Portugal, force up borrowing costs and perhaps force them to accept a bail-out as well.
The big question now is that there have been two eurozone bail-outs this year: Will this help draw a line under instability or are we going to see a succession of crises, raising long-term questions about the future of stability in the EU?

Reuters news agency quoted senior EU sources as saying the loans would total 80-90bn euros.

Mr Cowen said the Irish Republic's banks would be made smaller, as part of a restructuring of the banking industry.
The other part of the bail-out package would help to reduce the government's budget deficit to a target of 3% of GDP by 2014, Mr Lenihan said.
Under the bailout scheme, income tax will increase but the country's low 12.5% corporation tax - controversial for some other countries but "non-negotiable" for the Irish government - will not be touched.
It is a sign of the crisis facing the Irish Republic and some of the other highly-indebted European nations that the rescue plan had to be announced late on Sunday, before the financial markets opened on Monday, without many important details having been worked out, says BBC Europe correspondent Jonty Bloom.
The global financial crisis has dealt the Irish Republic a hard blow.
The government has responded with deep spending cuts and costly bail-outs of the banking sector.
Announcing the bail-out on Sunday, Mr Cowen appealed for public solidarity.

Previously the government had said it did not need any financial support from the European Union and IMF.

EU officials fear Ireland's financial problems might spread to other eurozone countries with large budget deficits, such as Spain and Portugal.

The EU and the IMF launched a 110bn euro rescue programme for Greece in May after the government was faced with the prospect of bankruptcy.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office website advises against all but essential travel to parts of Afghanistan, and that nobody visits the areas worst-hit by fighting.

It says Kabul has witnessed a "significant escalation in the number of suicide and rocket attacks in the last year. Since late August 2009, there have been 14 'successful' suicide attacks in the city, with at least five further suicide attacks known to have been thwarted."
Several young people interviewed by Sonali Shah, a presenter for BBC children's channel CBBC, spoke of their fear of the violence.
Sohrad, a 16-year-old student, told Newsround: "Because of explosions happening in the city, it is frightening when we come to school. We are afraid of explosions in the school."
And Manija, 11, also from Kabul, described the reality of growing up in a country at war. She said: "When there are explosions I get sad because people are dying, but the next day when they are living a normal life and celebrating I get happy."
'Very few bombs' However Mr Sedwill told the programme: "In Kabul and the other big cities actually there are very few of these bombs. The children are probably safer here than they would be in London, New York or Glasgow or many other cities.
"It's a very family-orientated society. So it is a little bit like a city of villages."

But chief executive of Save the Children, Justin Forsyth, said it was wrong to make the comparison with children living in Western cities.

"Afghanistan is the worst place on earth to be born a child - one in four children living there will die before they reach the age of five," he said.
"We should be listening to what children in Afghanistan are saying. Last year was the deadliest for children since late 2001, with more than a thousand killed because of the conflict.
"But it's not just about the bombs. A staggering 850 children die every day, many from easily preventable diseases such as diarrhoea or pneumonia, or because they are malnourished.
"The lives of children in Afghanistan are in extreme danger. The international community needs to put as much time, effort and money into stopping children dying unnecessarily as into security operations there."
A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said it understood it was important to reassure children in Afghanistan about their safety, but added that Mr Sedwill "has got it wrong here".
"This comparison will simply lead people in Glasgow, London and New York to pull out the statistics showing how very wrong he is and his, very important, message to the people of Afghanistan will be lost," he said.
Hiding Taliban When asked why Nato troops had not won the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan, Mr Sedwill said: "It's not like the Second World War, or other wars that people are familiar with, where you fight on the battlefield.
"Because the Taliban can't fight that way... [what] they do is, they hide among the people. We are not going to leave Afghanistan. We are not going to leave Kabul until we are absolutely sure the Taliban can't return."
Leaders of Nato's 28 states have backed a strategy to transfer leadership for the fight against the Taliban to Afghan forces by the end of 2014.

The Irish prime minister has confirmed that the Republic of Ireland and the EU have agreed a financial rescue package.

Chancellor George Osborne is expected to make a statement about the UK commitment in the Commons on Monday.

Our political editor said Mr Osborne and Prime Minister David Cameron had taken a decision at last week's G20 summit in Seoul that the UK would be ready to promise £7bn in loans as part of any Irish rescue plan.
The cost of the direct UK loan to the Republic is expected to be "in the low billions" and will be in the form of contingency loans which the government expects to see paid back.
Sweden has also agreed to make a direct loan to the Irish.
BBC business editor Robert Peston said the Irish Republic's economy was important to the UK economy as it received a substantial amount of British exports and its banks played a big role in Northern Ireland.

New research suggests it was designed to disrupt centrifuges often used to enrich uranium.

Detailed analysis of the worm has revealed more about the team behind it and what it was supposed to do.

Code secrets
 
The close look at the code inside Stuxnet was carried out by Tom Parker from security firm Securicon who specialises in picking out the digital fingerprints hackers leave behind in malware.

His analysis of Stuxnet shows it is made of several distinct blocks. One part targets industrial control systems, another handles the worm's methods of spreading itself and another concerns the way its creators planned to communicate with and control it.

The most sophisticated part of Stuxnet targeted the Programmable Logic Controllers used in industrial plants to automate the operation of components such as motors or pumps.

Subverting PLCs required detailed knowledge of one manufacturer's product line, the programming language written for it and insight into how it could be subverted. That meant, said Mr Parker, the list of suspects was pretty short.

"I do believe the PLC components were written in the West," he said. "It's western companies that are investing most heavily in automation of industrial processes, whether it's putting coke in cans or nuclear enrichment."

"However, the bits that drop it into a system and the command and control parts are not that advanced at all," said Mr Parker.

Iran has the highest number of machines infected with Stuxnet

 

"I've compared this less advanced code to other malware and it does not score very highly," he said.

Dedicated hi-tech criminals would not have used such crude methods of distribution and control, he said, suggesting that it was put together by a nation rather than organised crime.

What this implies, he said, is that whichever country put Stuxnet together commissioned the creation of the PLC part from a Western nation, then added its own distribution and control code to it.

The analysis suggests that a team of 6-10 people were behind Stuxnet and were involved with it for some time. Whoever wrote it would also need information about and access to industrial plants in Iran if that was the actual target, said Mr Parker.

Motor control

 
More information has also emerged about how Stuxnet disrupts the industrial control systems it managed to compromise.

Research by security firm Symantec has shown that the likely target were frequency controllers that many PLCs are hooked up to in order to regulate a motor.

In particular, said Symantec, Stuxnet targeted those operating at frequencies between 807 and 1210Hz.

"There's a limited amount of equipment operating at that speed," said Orla Cox, security operations manager at Symantec. "It knew exactly what it was going after."

"Those operating at 600hz or above are regulated for export by the US because they can be used to control centrifuges for uranium enrichment," she said.
If Stuxnet did manage to infect a PLC connected to a centrifuge, it would seriously disrupt its working, said Ms Cox.

What is not clear, said Ms Cox, is whether Stuxnet hit its target. If it did not, she said, then the fact that the command and control system has been taken over by security firms has ended any chance of it being used again.

"Our expectation is that the attack is done at this point," she said. "We've not seen any more variants out there and I don't suspect we will."

Mr Parker said that whoever did write it failed in one respect because Stuxnet has not stayed live for as long as its creators hoped.

The control system set up needed to have been in place for years to have a seriously disruptive effect on its intended targets, he said.

"Someone has serious egg on their face because they are never going to be able to use this investment ever again," he said.

Google's wi-fi data to be deleted

He said there was no indication that any information collected "had fallen into the wrong hands".

It will not appease critics who called for the search giant to be fined.
There were no grounds for fining Google, Mr Smith told the BBC.

"We'd have had to find that there was substantial damage or distress to individuals from the collection of snippets of e-mails, URLs and passwords. We'd have to meet that criteria for a penalty to be imposed," he said.

Google admitted earlier this year that it had accidentally collected information from unsecured wireless networks around the world.

The incident came to light during a routine audit by the Hamburg data authority.
It led to dozens of enquiries with some - notably the Canadian data commissioner - offering detailed findings about the nature of the breaches.

The Canadian investigation found that Google captured personal information, including a list of names of people suffering from certain medical conditions.
Canadian privacy commissioner Jennifer Stoddart said thousands of Canadians had been affected.

The findings led her to conclude that the search giant "seriously violated" its privacy laws.

More training

Mr Smith admitted that the UK had conducted a much more basic investigation.
"We spent less time searching than others did. If we had searched for days and days we would have found more," Mr Smith said.

Following this audit, the ICO ruled that "no significant breach" had occurred.
But following publication of the Canadian data commissioner's findings, the ICO changed this to a "significant breach".

Mr Smith said that the ICO had intended all along to base its final judgement on the findings of its counterparts.

"It is not a good use of the data protection authority to duplicate more in-depth enquiries," he said.

"We have based our decision on the findings of other data authorities. It was exactly the same type of information found by them," he said.

Mr Smith revealed that the ICO is only able to audit companies that have given prior permission for such an investigation.

Jim Killock, executive director of digital advocacy The Open Rights Group, thinks this is a "shocking state of affairs".

"The ICO needs more powers and definitely needs more technical expertise," he said.

"To my mind people's privacy has been breached and they should be told about it. The ICO has a duty to let people know what has happened," he said.

Mr Killock believes that Google's data breach is more akin to unlawful interception, similar to opening someone's post without permission.

The UK currently has no public body to investigate interception breaches, a gap that that led the European Commission to launch legal action against it.

The Home Office is currently consulting on how to make sure it complies with European legislation on the interception of communications.

Following the ICO's ruling, Google has promised offering privacy training to its staff.

Other data bodies and groups around the world are still investigating its capture of wi-fi data.

Mr Killock is hopeful there will be harsher punishments for Google down the line.
"I should hope it would be fined," he said.

Berdasarkan prinsip dasar broadcasting yaitu menyampaikan pesan, berita maupun info ringan, maka sudah dipastikan bahwa seorang penyiar harus memiliki pengetahuan yang luas dalam hal apa pun. Apalah artinya jika seorang penyiar memiliki kesempurnaan pada vokal dan fisik tetapi dangkal pengetahuannya? Oleh karena itu, Anda harus banyak membaca koran, nonton berita di televisi, dan rajin-rajinlah searching info apa pun yang menarik di Internet untuk dijadikan materi siaran Anda.

3. Memiliki pergaulan yang luas. Perbanyaklah teman dalam kehidupan Anda, karena akan ada banyak info yang akan Anda dapatkan. Anda tidak akan bisa sukses menjadi seorang penyiar apabila lingkup pergaulan Anda hanya seputar rumah ataupun kampus Anda saja. Pergunakanlah media pergaulan online yang sekarang sudah semakin banyak dan ramai dipergunakan oleh kebanyakan orang. Atau bisa juga Anda mendatagi tempat-tempat nongkrong yang sedang diminati oleh kebanyakan orang.

4. Mengenali lebih dalam radio ataupun televisi yang menjadi target Anda. Hal ini menjadi penting, karena apabila Anda tidak mempunyai pengetahuan apa-apa tentang radio ataupun televisi dimana Anda akan menjadi penyiarnya, maka sama saja Anda akan membuat malu radio ataupun televisi tersebut. Diibaratkan penyiar adalah mascot dari radio atau televisi, oleh karena itu jangan permalukan diri Anda ketika ada orang yang bertanya tentang radio atau televisi tempat Anda bekerja. Pelajarilah segala sesuatu yang berhubungan dengan radio dan televisi tersebut.

5. Memahami secara mendalam segmen acara radio ataupun televisi. Dengan Anda memahami secara mendalam segmen acara dari radio ataupun televisi dimana Anda akan menjadi penyiarnya, maka Anda berarti sudah mengerti tentang audience/listener: kriteria usia, gender/jenis kelamin, pekerjaan dari audience/listener, program acara apa yang diminati dan yang mereka butuhkan, dan sebagainya. Dengan memahami semuanya maka Anda akan menjadi penyiar yang handal.

6. Mampu bekerjasama yang baik dalam tim Kualitas dari program acara yang akan Anda bawakan akan ditentukan oleh solidnya Anda dengan tim Anda. Oleh karena itu, Anda harus bisa bekerja sama dengan tim Anda. Anda bisa menganggap tim Anda sebagai keluarga. Karena bagaimana pun juga Anda akan saling berhubungan dan berinteraksi lebih banyak dengan tim (maksudnya Anda akan membutuhkan bantuan scriptwriter, teknisi, produser, dll).

7. Be Yourself. Don’t try and be someone you are not. Be yourself atau originalitas merupakan point yang banyak dicari dan dibutuhkan dalam industri radio atau televisi khususnya untuk menjadi seorang penyiar. Jadilah diri sendiri, jangan meniru gaya penyiar yang sudah ada. Temukanlah gaya Anda sendiri, karena semakin Anda berbeda maka Anda semakin mempunyai nilai lebih. Keaslian gaya Anda bisa dilihat dari gaya bicara, penyampaian pesan/adlibs iklan, gaya Anda duduk, penampilan Anda, dan lain-lainnya. Jika memungkinkan, jadikan originalitas diri Anda sebagai trendsetter bagi audience/listener.

Being a big fan of television series (ranking from hospital drama such as ER or Grey's Anatomy to recent success Glee) I musty confess that I've become a true addict to Mad Men. Since episode One, it was clear that it was going to be something previously unseen on television. Now we're already ending Season Four and it did not lose charm, perfection and sheer beauty.
Janie Bryant costumes are such a source of inspiration I want to enter a time-machine and apply as a secretary in Sterling Cooper Draper Price.
In fact, you don't even have to be a secretary, you can join the housewives, too! Those Betty Draper ensembles make me wonder: did all the stay at home mums in the 60s dress in perfectly ironed dresses and sleep in ethereal negligees?
Also, look at this season's Sally Draper (a girl!) outfits: makes me want to make a raid in her wardrobe or at least steal some of the ideas.
This year's fashion is full of references to Mad Men: Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton has shown some marvelous dresses, with full circle skirts and floral designs. Prada took inspiration also from the hairdos of the Madison Ave.ladies. Pointy kitten heels (with a bow!) are back in first row, swing coats and elegant purses will be seen a lot more this winter.
Although, there is a small problem. The whole 60s scene with its waspy waist skirts and dresses doesn't go on well with my current waist proportions.
So, I would have to learn sewing and buy some of the gorgeous vintage fabrics that can be found on eBay. Or find a good dressmaker, one who would be able to make the perfect dress just from looking at a picture from a magazine. Or, the easiest solution of all, find a really good corset, that will make me fit in one of those dresses! I notice that retro lingerie is back too, paired with lace, which is another among the great fashion comebacks this year.
I'm a bit at a loss: I've been reading that exercising isn't directly proportional with waist centimeters loss. I should cut down on pasta, bread and cakes and increase the consumption of protein (whether it is shakes or meat - in particular chicken and poultry). I should forget all those lovely pralines in heart-shaped boxes and step on a treadmill. I should forget stiletto heels and wear some hideous shape-up trainers on my way to work?
But then, what is a small sacrifice of 3 months compared to a gorgeous Betty Draper style dress? Or shall I just go for a Joan Holloway style and remain curvy and happy?

I have two dyslexic teens. Actually, I have three but one is in college now...so parenting her has changed to phone calls and "send money". However, the two who are at home are both a joy and a challenge. They have so many wonderful attributes but sometimes I still want to pull my hair out when giving directions or when I come across another mess where one of them got all creative and then ran out of steam on the project. But, I also remember what it felt like before I knew much about dyslexia. I remember the struggles that I had trying to understand my children's behaviors. So, the following are five tips that have helped me raise my wonderful kids. Many look at us and can't believe how close we are...it's all because I learned from my kids to not sweat the small stuff and to be real.
Tips from a BUSY Mom
1) When you give your child directions, make eye contact. Yes...you will have to get out of your chair after a rough day. No, you can't holler from the kitchen. It's very important that your dyslexic child see your expression while they hear your words. As dyslexia is an auditory processing disorder, your child may have major difficulties processing what you've actually said if they can't see you. Also, make your child repeat the directions back. I still do this with my 18 year old. She has gotten very used to it and knows that it helps her to remember. I often review directions several times. If you are asking your child to do something new, expect to repeat the directions at LEAST three times and it will all go better if you show them what you expect the first time.
2) Be patient. loving and clear. Your child DOES NOT mean to not understand. When things happen in your household that have to do with your child(ren) "not listening", begin with patience, love and clarity. Of course, if they are being obviously defiant, then they need consequences. But, if you look at their face and they look genuinely confused about what you've repeated ("Son, I asked you to take the trash out to the curb.") Then, they probably did not process what you've asked properly. I often give time frames, like, "It is 3:00. At 3:05, I expect you to take the trash from the kitchen outside to the curb because the garbage man will be here in the morning." Notice I also made sure to paint a full picture of my expectation. Dyslexics think in pictures, paint a clear word picture for them.
3) Use humor. My kids are funny. They make me laugh every day and I appreciate that. However, they also make me laugh at inappropriate times...like when I'm trying to provide consequences for misbehavior! Still, I've found that using humor and laughing about the challenges helps us all to make it work. In our house, we have "Dyslexic moments." Those moments are acknowledged and accepted. We crack up rather than becoming frustrated. When my kids do something backwards like putting the pitcher of juice under the sink and the dish soap in the refrigerator, it's way funny. I used to get frustrated and angry simply because it seemed to take so much time to figure out how to explain things to my kids, but really words are over rated...laughter will get the loving message across much better. Laughing together when things are a challenge says, "I love you no matter what!"
4) Support organization but don't freak out about lapses. My kids are a bit of a mess, as are many dyslexics. We've tried many organizational strategies...some help some don't. I've learned to go with my kids' style. My daughter loves written calendars, she is great about writing down appointments and assignments. My son prefers to have open tubs in his room where he can see his "stuff". The best we can do is label tubs and make sure the stuff doesn't get mixed. There are certain things I insist on. For example, our living room MUST be cleaned and my kids are not allowed to trickle their mess into the common area. Their rooms can be "organized" how they want but the common spaces are organized by Mom...no exceptions. In order to do this, I had to establish strict structures to make this happen. I also have to do deep breathing exercising whenever I notice the structures have been ignored. Parenting dyslexics take flexibility.
5) Respect what your kids are feeling in the evening and on weekends. Now, this seems obvious...but it's not. I used to try to do the conventional things like enforce a homework hour, do play dates, and read for the big "at least 20 minutes a night". Then, I realized my kids needed me to be their advocate. They needed me to look at them and really SEE the dark circles under their eyes from being so worn out from trying to keep up in classes. The needed me to understand how deflated the balloon of their self-esteem was from not ever being number one (or even number 10) in their classes at school. They needed me to know that they didn't want to look at one more darned word of text. They just needed to be hugged, to be regarded as the coolest kid on the planet, and to do something they were good at with Mom or Dad. My daughter loves to cook. My son likes to play video games with Dad.
Once I really woke up, my kids got better and better...more and more confident. I'm an educator. I know what the rules are. I know what I "should" be doing to make sure my kids are successful in school... but guess what? That formula doesn't work very well for a dyslexic. So I wrote our formula based on MY kids...I highly recommend it.

Talking About Sex With Your Kids

I believe many kids seek a mature and adult-like relationship because they lack some form of support, connection, and or attention. Having sex has very real consequences both physically and emotionally. The emotions that come from having sex can be heavy and overwhelming for someone too young; they can be even for someone older who has sexual experience. Confusion often sets in on them, their priorities shift, and their lives become muddled.
You'll notice that their attention shifts from themselves, their lives, from their dreams and aspirations to their relationship. You'll see them rob themselves of the simple joys of just being and experiencing all the activities that encompass adolescence; an important aspect of their childhood. Sex often carries with it feelings of intense vulnerability, insecurity, an indescribable hollowed emptiness, and a severe lack of focus on anything outside of their relationship.
I believe that there is a long and extensive list of potential reasons why kids engage in sexual activity at a young age and I certainly will not be able to cover all of them in this article but I will go over a few.
When kids see sex as a knuckle-bumping, high-five worthy experience their focus shifts just as quickly as their bodies do during puberty. They may see these behaviors from people close to them within the home, a relative, on television, from a friend or a family member of a friend. You will never know everything your kid is exposed to or by whom. This kind of mentality teaches them that sex is cool, and once experienced it will make them even cooler. It makes a joke and a mockery out of the sexual experience, one that is not funny at any age and is certainly no way to begin their sexual experience.
We all remember being adolescents and wanting to be with our friends, hanging out, playing outside and just being a kid. This is fine... I'm not finding fault with that. But if you're noticing that your kid would always rather be with his girlfriend, friends, or at work rather than in your home with their family you may have a situation brewing that's worth examining.
Many kids seek out their friends/boyfriends over their family because they feel a greater acceptance of who and how they are from their peer groups and therefore they feel more relaxed around them. They may feel their peers/girlfriend have a greater respect for their thoughts, words, and actions than their family does. Their friends never yell at or demean their already fragile self-esteem so there's an immediate comfort with their friends or boyfriend if there is a lot of yelling in their household. Rather you agree with these statements or not, if this is their perspective... then this is their experience.
Kids are always thinking... all of the time. You may think they're fine, you've got good kids, you think they'd come to you, they'd tell you if they were engaging in or even thinking about having sex, but this isn't always the case. Did you go to your parents before you started having sex? Did you let your parents know that you were thinking about having sex? If you were like the majority of adolescent and teenagers I'm guessing that you did not. It may have been embarrassing for you to bring up such a topic. Maybe you were afraid you'd get in trouble, or maybe you thought they'd keep you from your girlfriend or other friends. Chances are better than not your kid has the same fears, concerns, and apprehensions.
It is not their job to bring up the difficult subjects... it's yours... and it's expected of you. And as hard as the subject matter may be, as awkward and or uncomfortable as you might feel you simply need to suck it up, and get the conversation rolling.
Every child that's in my life hears a series of questions from me almost every time I see them. The questions are:
* You drinking?
* You smoking?
* You doing any drugs?
* You got a boyfriend?
* A girlfriend?
* Your friends drinking, smoking, doing any drugs?
* Your friends have boyfriends/girlfriends?
I started when the kids were young, around 2-3 years old. They would answer "no" to each question all the while thinking I was silly as they laughed and giggled. But over the years the answers changed. For some their friends were experimenting with cigarette smoking at 9, another had a friend who was offered a sucker at school with ecstasy (allegedly) on it at 10, other kids were drinking and some parents were buying it at 13-14 years old.
I ask so that I can get use to "asking the questions I want the answers to" and so the questions are not an uncomfortable surprise for them. I want to know if they're doing any of these things, if their friends are, what they think of it, are they interested in trying it, why? Depending on their answers I can easily add more specific questions.
It doesn't matter when or how you start the conversations it only matters that you start. Ever hear, "better late than never?" That applies here as well!
Many kids, especially young girls, who for whatever reason are without a father figure in their life may seek the love, attention, affection, and approval they lack from not having that parental relationship in a physical relationship.
Kids that feel unaccepted and generally unhappy with themselves may seek acceptance from a group you don't feel fits the personality of the kid you know. Often time this group is older, more mature, and at a place in their lives when they're ready for certain things in a relationship (and otherwise) at 16-17-18 than say your 11-13 year old simply is not.
If self esteem is an over shadowing issue I suggest letting them know that you understand there's a natural desire to explore their bodies and experience the pleasurable experience of sex but affirm to them that they are extremely valuable. I suggest elaborating on this in a way that is applicable specifically towards the child in your life. For example, mention specific examples of their kind nature, their generous spirit, or the creative way they do something.
Point out the things they may think no one else notices about them. For example, share with them how adorable it is that her teddy bears are a collection of only the squishiest and the softest bears. Make him aware of how cute it is that he has to stir his ice cream before he eats it or how funny it is that he waits until everyone else is finished with their treat before he'll eat his in front of them... knowing they all want more.
Let them know that you would like all of their sexual experiences to not only be experienced at a time in their life when they can handle the emotional repercussions of a sexual experience but that you would like it to be with someone who truly knows them, who respects the individual that they are, and who is considerate of them.
Sex is an intensely emotional experience that can bring about feelings of extreme vulnerability. You may notice that these feelings can distract your child from goals they may have had prior to their sexual experience. If you see college aspirations, day-dreams of profession sports, and international travel being replaced with financial worries, and how to support a family, you've likely got a kid that's becoming heavy involved in a very adult-like relationship.
My other suggestion is to help them see their life in a different way. For example, if they use to dream of sports you could begin to tell them how you picture them in the uniform of their favorite team, playing for their favorite college, or that you always love watching him during his games. If their college aspirations are being replaced with other thoughts then start taking them for campus tours, and meeting with every department that might catch their interest. Introduce them to the study abroad programs and all the places they can choose to take their life experience. These things help them to visualize the potential and possibilities their life holds.
I believe that life is meant to be experienced; that you are here to continuously discover new aspects of your self and live your life to the fullest extent of your desires and abilities. Life may be hindered and your experiences hampered if you rush past the years or bring about the many responsibilities and potential obligations of a premature sexual relationship before you have had a chance to experience and develop your self outside of your adolescence and teenage self.
It's NEVER too late to start talking with your kids about sex. Your conversations may not be met with gratitude at first and that's okay; if the roles were reversed you'd probably be giving a similar... less than welcome response. They're nervous, uncomfortable, and embarrassed.
They may be afraid of disappointing you. Rather you see it or not most kids have a great desire to please their parents and will keep their less than flattering behaviors out of sight to avoid hurting you. One of the key aspects of your job is to educate them with everything you know. This kind of protective education lets them know the potential repercussions of their actions. These are not one time conversations... they are ongoing.
Rather they have started having sex or not they still deserve to be educated and sex still needs to be an ongoing topic of conversation. You don't need to know all the intimate details if they are having sex. But by continuing to make it a topic of conversation they'll know they haven't been outcast and ostracized and that they have your support, your input, and your guidance.
